AbstractAn attempt to use a simplified vortex model to study jet noise is reported. Special considerations are given to relate the vortex ring properties with jet flow parameters, such as jet velocity, nozzle radius, and jet-structure Strouhal number. Results show good agreement with existing low-Mach-number turbulence sound theories and experimental observations of an initially laminar jet. They also give new insight into some well-established jet noise phenomena.
