Abstract | The 2003 SARS pandemic and subsequent influenza outbreaks have provided a wake-up call for the need for global bio-surveillance. Despite substantial global investments in attempting to prepare for viral outbreaks, and influenza in particular, we remain vulnerable to future pandemics with high morbidity and mortality. The state of global preparedness for viral outbreaks will discussed with a focus on future challenges and opportunities |
