AbstractInternal fiction in the kHz range has been performed for single-phase HgBa 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O 8+δ with the critical temperature T c = 120 K. The results indicate that two peaks of internal friction appear near 150 and 250 K. X-ray diffraction exhibits a lattice parameter stepping at tens of Kelvin above T c . The Grüneisen parameter γ is estimated from the value of thermal expansion coefficients obtained from X-ray diffraction measurements. The discussion suggests that the anomaly at 150 K is caused by lattice instabilities and the other one near 250 K may be associated with a Néel transition.
