Abstract | This presentation will begin by looking at traffic congestion and other negative transport externalities affecting millions of people living in cities around the world. It then introduces the comprehensive sustainability perspective and argues that a positive approach can be adopted to make transportation more sustainable. There is a need to explore multiple ways beyond the transport system. An integrated approach that explicitly considers non-transport technologies, policy and planning, and people’s behaviour is needed. The local context is of fundamental importance in shaping the ways forward. |
