AbstractSurrounding wind environments are modified differently by bluff bodies with various shapes. This study investigated the flow field near an atypical building design: lift-up design (LB), using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) techniques. The flow field near a building without the lift-up design was used as the control case (CB) for the comparison of the two flow fields near buildings with and without the lift-up design. The comparison shows noticeable differences in the lower part of the flow field near LB. Two prominent flow modifications near LB are the formation of new vortices in the space underneath the main structure and the location of downwind saddle point moved close to the ground plane. These flow modifications are probably attributed to the wind flow passing through the space underneath the main structure of LB.
