Abstract | In the context of gerontology, biobehavioral effects refer to the biopsychosocial dimensions of age-related changes. The term “biobehavioral” refers to a transactional perspective, encompassing biological (involving physical, physiological, neurological, and genetic mechanisms) and behavioral influences (involving psychosocial and environmental factors), as well as their interactions; this perspective implies that health- and disease-related outcomes during late life can be explained by the a broad array of biopsychosocial factors of behavior and their interactions (Whitfield 2010; Whitfield et al. 2011). |
