AbstractThe article examines the Jhanas (absorptions) as meditative techniques based on the discourses of the Buddha with the aim of concluding that although Jhanas play a key role in the path to liberation, they are not always considered as a necessary condition for one to attain the cessation of suffering; though concentration is necessary for attaining the cessation of suffering, it does not need to be at the jhanic level for all practitioners.
