Abstract | This longitudinal study traced the maintenance and resolution of speech errors by 47 Mandarin-Cantonese bilingual children in one-year time interval. Assessment at first data point (Lam & To, 2017) suggested that high prevalence of atypical errors in both Mandarin and Cantonese was manifested in all age groups. At second data point, significant resolutions were observed in vowel errors in both languages and errors in Cantonese initial consonants. Final consonant errors in both languages were difficult to resolve. The results suggested that minimal language daily exposure, atypical speech errors and phonological interference were factors maintenance of errors.
