Abstract | Over the last half-century, the development and diffusion of information and communication technologies have dramatically transformed the way people write. On the one hand, written interaction, for example via email or text messages, has both supplemented and supplanted forms of communication previously conducted orally. On the other hand, blogs, wikis, and social media have given many more people the means to experience authorship and publication than ever before in human history. In addition, word processing software and the Internet provide tools for conducting and authoring academic research that previous generations could only imagine. |
