AbstractOver the past few years, trafficking in women and children across international borders has been widespread. Eighty per cent of these trafficked persons end up in sex slavery. This issue is further perpetuated as a “highly profitable business”, especially in Asian countries, due to the poor socio-economic background and the play on the vulnerability of young children and women in these countries. Hence, it is important to bring forth this prevalent social issue in efforts to examine, eradicate and educate the general public on it. In this effort, ALSA Malaysia together with ALSA Hong Kong will be conducting a ALSA Malaysia [ALSA UUM x ALSA HKU] International Video Conference 2021 titled “Understanding The Activity of Sexual Exploitation” on 24th July 2021 bringing together experts throughtout Southeast Asia to outline and discuss the prevalence of sexual exploitation and the strengths and weaknesses in each jurisdiction's legal approach to dealing with sexual exploitation.
