Abstract | This is a pilot Study of the geomorphology, including surface vegetation of Tung
Lung Chau, by inspecting 26 readily accessible exposures to supplement desktop
studies with field observation.
The objective of the Study is to identify natural hillslope landforms and their
forming processes at Tung Lung Chau and relate soil depths and surface
vegetation which formed part of the landforms.
Data were obtained from October 2018 to June 2021 by site reconnaissance at
Tung Lung Chau, covering field inspection, measurement, sampling and testing,
for a total number of 26 exposures.
The data were in form of field observations analysed with a number of graphical
plots to relate with gravitational hillslope processes as influenced by climate,
geology, topography, time and surface vegetation.
It was concluded that the Study Area comprised mostly in-situ weathering,
gravitational mass movement, colluvial redisposition and beach deposits through
reviewing the 26 exposures. Also, a pilot classification method by the soil
horizons was conducted to relate the recommended soil depths with the surface
vegetation.
