Abstract | In recent years, the increased awareness of global climate change and air pollution has provided strong impetus worldwide to develop towards a sustainable E-mobility city. Many countries are preparing to phase out in the foreseeable future cars powered by internal combustion engines (ICEs) in favour of electric ones as part of their effort to fulfil the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. In response, major car manufacturers are realigning their research and development from ICE to electric cars (E-cars). Many cities have plans to stop the sale of ICE cars in a specific year. However, this change over would face a lot of challenges. The aims of this study are to explore all the possible barriers to the popularization of E-car in cities like Hong Kong and identify their solutions, which would help the community to forge a consensus and the government to develop relevant policies for the dawning of the E-car era. |
