AbstractSingle crystalline copper nanorings were synthesized through the solvothermal process. The N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP)/water system is thought to be the key factor to form the novel structure, and a growth-stress induced bending mechanism is proposed to explain the formation mechanism. Micro-manipulation experiments revealed excellent mechanical properties of these copper nanorings. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
