AbstractThe design and synthesis of two recently reported examples of a new class of mechanically interlocked molecules - suitanes - is described. Suitanes consist of a rigid "body" template that is wrapped up in an all-in-one "suit" that fits the body to a T such that the two cannot be separated. These architecturally distinct interlocked molecular compounds are synthesized from a pool of components through a template-directed self-assembly process by taking advantage of dynamic covalent bond formation.
