AbstractHere, we report a simple, one-step, template-directed synthesis of a rigid tetracationic cyclophane receptor, cyclobis(paraquat p-phenylene), from commercially available precursors such as 1,4-bis(bromomethyl)benzene and 4,4′ -bipyridine.
