Abstract

As the educational landscape continues to embrace digital tools and innovative teaching methods, the integration of Generative AI writing, text-to-image applications, and the interactive storytelling capabilities of the popular open-source platform, Twine presents a promising avenue for creating engaging and dynamic learning experiences. This 2-hour hands-on and experiential workshop invites educators to delve into the expanded potentials of these technologies in crafting “choose your own adventure” style learning experiences for engaging and challenging students.

Through guided activities and collaborative discussions, participants will:

  1. Evaluate the capabilities and limitations of Generative AI writing models, such as OpenAI’s GPT-4, and text-to-image applications in storytelling for teaching and learning.
  2. Create interactive narratives through hands-on experience integrating Twine, a popular open-source platform for designing branching storylines, with emerging Generative AI writing and image applications.
  3. Design immersive and responsive learning scenarios that foster student engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Upon completing the workshop, participants will have successfully developed their own narrative-driven game and gained the essential knowledge and skills to craft dynamic, technology-driven educational experiences to enrich their curricula. The potential applications of these games extend to enhancing feedback and assessment strategies and providing valuable experiences within serious gaming contexts. Attendees must bring their laptops to participate in this interactive workshop.
