AbstractThe phenomenon of urbanization has garnered significant scholarly attention due to its transformative influence on urban landscapes. Among the various manifestations of urbanization, high tech parks have emerged as catalysts for industrial advancement and economic growth. This research focuses on the case of Hangzhou Future Science Town, a prominent high-tech park that has undergone substantial development and urbanization. Employing the analytical lens of actor network theory, this study delves into the intricate dynamics and interplay among diverse stakeholders within the evolving industries of Future Science Town. Employing a methodological approach encompassing participant observation, interviews, and documentary analysis, this research elucidates the multifaceted facets of gentrification as observed across industrial, commercial, and residential domains. The findings unveil a complex actor-network comprising entities such as the Future Science Town Management Committee, traditional local industries typified by the traditional Chinese farmer's market, and high-tech giants like Alibaba. The study demonstrates that the rise in housing costs due to urbanization has elicited concerns within the traditional retail sector, with the Management Committee shaping these transformations. This investigation uncovers the intricate interplay between disparate actor groups in Hangzhou Future Science Town, the evolution of its urban fabric, and the challenges and opportunities inherent in the ongoing urbanization trajectory.
