Abstract

This study aims to investigate a new mobility service using electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles. We seek to develop a comprehensive framework to model, optimize, and evaluate this emerging mode of transportation. An eVTOL vehicle comprises a chassis and a flight module, which can travel independently or together. The research problem involves strategic planning of charging infrastructure and operational issues such as routing and charging schedules for the chassis and flight modules. We will propose mathematical models to formulate the problem and design exact or heuristic algorithms for its solution. We will develop a decision support system for eVTOL mobility services, providing planning and operational decision reference. Additionally, this paper will explore the feasibility and profitability of this mobility mode in various specific scenarios. EVTOL vehicles represent an innovative technology that offers fast, point-to-point, congestion-free mobility services. This study focuses on exploring appropriate business model design, service planning and profitability assessment for this technology, which have not yet received in-depth investigation.
