A Critical Analysis of the Phrase "Shi Ze Zhu Zhi Xu Ce" in Mozi's Against Confucianism II

<p>《墨子‧非儒下》云：“君子勝不逐奔，揜函弗射，施則助之胥車。”就其中“施則助之胥車”一句的解讀，歷來眾說紛紜，莫衷一是。本文廣泛引用前賢諸說，並從上下文理、字形分析、訓詁學及文獻辭例等多角度，對諸家訓釋進行詳細考察和平議。針對句中的“施”和“胥車”的解讀，本文在前人研究的基礎上，嘗試提出較為合理的說法，冀能對此句的理解有所裨益。</p>

The chapter "Against Confucianism II" in the Mozi states: "Junzi sheng bu zhu ben, yan han fu she, shi ze zhu zhi xu che" (君子勝不逐奔，揜函弗射，施則助之胥車). The interpretation of the phrase "shi ze zhu zhi xu che" (施則助之胥車) has been subject to various interpretations throughout history, with no consensus reached. This article extensively references the interpretations of previous scholars and conducts a detailed examination and critique of these interpretations from multiple perspectives, including contextual analysis, character analysis, philology, and textual evidence. Building on previous research, this article attempts to propose a more reasonable interpretation of the terms "shi" (施) and "xu che" (胥车), in the hope of contributing to a better understanding of this phrase.
