| Abstract | The role of EoLC volunteers is becoming increasingly important globally but is often overlooked in compassionate community building. This chapter explores strategies for developing EoLC volunteers in Hong Kong and enhancing their impact within a compassionate community framework. Our findings show that project-based initiatives and systematic training equip volunteers with essential skills to provide EoLC and organize supportive community activities. Acting as vital connectors between the community and healthcare system, they design and implement care tailored to the needs of patients and families. In this role, volunteers offer practical, psychosocial, spiritual, and physical support to patients and families, improving their quality of life in the final stages and ensuring they do not face these challenges alone. Volunteers gain coping strategies, personal growth, and a deeper sense of purpose. EoLC volunteering also creates strong support networks that reduce the stigma around death and dying, fostering a more informed and compassionate community. |
