Description | In July 2004, the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) of the Hong Kong SAR Government issued the document “Empowering Learning and Teaching with Information Technology”. As the five-year strategy announced by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 1998 provided the essential infrastructure for IT in education in moving further, a focus in the next strategy was to be the guiding of practitioners on the integration of IT into learning and teaching and the development of learners with a capacity for lifelong learning.
The EMB proposed that broad framework of information literacy for students will be developed to help teachers and students have a clearer picture on the learning targets of using IT in education. A consortia with representatives from the CU, HKBU, HKIEd, and HKU was contracted by the EMB to undertake this project.
This presentation by one of the principal investigators will outline the details of the study and the outcomes. The presenter James Henri is known internationally as an information literacy expert. His most recent publication “Leadership Issues in the Information Literate School Community” jointly edited with Marlene Asselin of the University of British Columbia is hot of the press at Libraries Unlimited. He is currently working on a new book to be co-authored with Lesley Farmer of the California State University (Long Beach) to be published by Scarecrow Press on "Assessing Information Literacy". |
