AbstractThis paper provides a comprehensive review of situations with sexual violence in China mainly between mainland China and Hong Kong. These situations are especially reflected in the prevalence of and the risk factors for different types of sexual violence. Knowledge and perceptions of sexual violence in communities are also examined to show how cultural beliefs affect reporting and help-seeking behavior on the part of victims of sexual violence. The paper, furthermore, examines the availability of intervention and services in order to suggest a set of five interrelated strategies in the context of Chinese societies. These strategies are: (1) legal reform; (2) anti-violence policy; (3) development of professional and specialized services; (4) training for professionals; and (5) research.
