AbstractAtomic Force Microscopy (AFM) is a useful tool for characterizing material surface properties and studying in situ bacterial biofilms formed on metal surfaces. The aims of the present study were to evaluate metal surface roughness after a series of treatments and attachment of the bacterium Janthinobacterium lividum, isolated from a drinking-water catridge, and to establish the relationship between surface treatment and susceptibility to biofilm formation. The four metal coupons used included Al Galvanized 0.3%, 5%, 55% and a pure zinc plate.
