AbstractThis paper introduces a device called a drilling process monitor, and describes its applicability to landslip preventive practices. Similar to the black box of an airplane, this monitoring device can automatically and continuously measure and record an entire hole drilling process. This monitoring device was used in soil nailing works in Hong Kong. It is shown from this case study that this real-time monitoring of drilling works can improve the currently available manually operated recording method, and provide useful information to landslip preventive practices.
