AbstractIn most modern cable-stayed bridges, the bridge deck is supported by closely spaced cables. In single tower cable-stayed bridges in particular, the lengths of "unsupported" deck adjacent to the end supports are important parameters affecting the internal forces and deflections of the deck and the tower. This paper describes studies of the above parameters and recommends reasonable values of unsupported lengths of deck adjacent to end supports, taking into account the practical problems of construction.
