AbstractSimilar to the case of two-dimensional anisotropic elasticity, the three generalized Barnett-Lothe tensors L, S and H, are frequently encountered in the extended Stroh formalism of two-dimensional deformations of anisotropic piezoelectric materials. Due to its implicitness, the extended Stroh formalism cannot be easily employed to obtain the tensors L, S and H in an explicit form. In this paper, explicit expressions of these generalized tensors for anisotropic piezoelectric media are obtained using the modified Lekhinitskii formalism for piezoelectricity. As an example, the explicit expressions for L, S and H of transversely isotropic piezoelectric materials are presented. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
