AbstractThe susceptibility of a two-dimensional (2D) electron gas is calculated at weak magnetic fields by using an independent-electron model. It is indicated that the behavior of the susceptibility is quite different from the bulk Landau susceptibility in the presence of a parabolic confinement potential. More interestingly, the susceptibility diverges in the zero field limit. An experimental test of these theoretical predictions is also proposed. © 1995.
