AbstractThe point-mode digital stabilization method for gamma-ray spectrum measurement over long duration is examined. The stabilizer generates a stabilizing bias to reduce the adverse effects of the electronic bias due to fluctuations in laboratory conditions or electronic instability. The stabilizing bias turns out to be a stochastic variable with a time dependent probability distribution following an exactly solvable driven diffusion equation. From the results, we calculate and discuss the optimum setting of the stabilizer for best performance. © 1995 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
