AbstractIn this study, 32 loci encoding 21 enzyme systems for Allozyme markers that can be used to identify each of the nine hybrids studied were obtained. Of the 32 isozyme loci surveyed, ten were polymorphic with a total of 25 alleies present in the nine hybrids, and five of the polymorphic loci could be used as markers for hybrid identification, as the parental lines of these hybrids were homozygous for different alleies at one or more of the loci. Using these allozyme markers, the purity of hybrid seeds were investigated by random sampling of 100 seedlings of the hybrid line and 10 seedlings each from the parents. The purity of the hybrid seed ranged from 60~100% in the nine hybrid lines was tested. By comparing the hybrid genotype with their respective parents, the source of impurity can be identified. In all the cases, comparing parental and hybrid seeds, the non-hybrid genotypes were found to be identical to the maternal parent at the marker loci , indicating that the primary source of contamination in the hybrid seed is self-fertilization in the maternal parent.
