AbstractBased on the unique optical performance of the Rowland circle, the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction scalar integral formula of electromagnetic wave is simplified in planar coordinate system. The calculable formula of diffractive field distribution from step refractive index planar waveguide is derived. The frequency spectrums of dielectric and metal cladding waveguide are deduced. It is demonstrated that the nature of planar waveguide diffractive field is a standing wave diffractive field.
