AbstractThe friction and wear properties of Mg-PSZ ceramics under dry sliding from room temperature to 600 °C were investigated by using a ball-on-flat tribometer. It was found that Mg-PSZ/TZP couple has the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate at 200 °C due to the formation of many cylindrical debris acting as rolling bearing on the worn surface of Mg-PSZ ceramic. The wear mechanism of Mg-PSZ ceramic is microploughing accompanied by microcracking at room temperature. The wear rate rapidly increases and the wear mechanism gradually changes into brittle fracture and spalling of grains with the increase of environmental temperature.
