AbstractThe conference focused on the following key areas: environmental fate and chemistry of pollutants; environmental effects of pollutants; ecotoxicology; application of molecular biological techniques to marine pollution studies; and innovations in pollution monitoring and control. The eight keynote papers are followed by reports on the Global Investigation of Pollution in the Marine Environment (GIPME) and US National Status and Trends Programmes. Nine case studies of pollutant levels are then presented. Sampling and analytical techniques are then discussed in seven papers. These are followed by five papers on environmental effects and 18 on ecotoxicology. The regions covered include China (especially Victoria Harbour), Malaysia, Mexico, Australia, Greece, the Baltic Sea and Kenya. procedures. -S.J.Stone
