AbstractThe cyclic voltammograms of high-valent bis(imido)ruthenium(VI) porphyrins, [RuVI(TMP)(NSO2C6H4Y)2] (Y=OMe, Me, H, Cl, NO2), have been recorded. These complexes showed reversible RuVI/RuV reduction couples at E1/2=- 0.12 to - 0.41 V (vs. Cp2Fe+/0) in dichloromethane at 25 oC, depending on the electron-donating (or - withdrawing) character of the para-substituent Y in the imido groups. Treatments of [RuVI(TMP)(NSO2C6H4Y)2] with alkenes and alkanes gave aziridination and amidation products, respectively. The observed log kY/kH values for the aziridination/amidation reactions linearly correlate with the above E1/2 values.
