AbstractThis paper addresses the problems of shelf space planning and display area allocation in convenience stores. A genetic algorithm is developed to obtain optimum solutions for such problems. A store trial is performed to collect data for analysis and the effects of facing space and display location on product sales are studied. The proposed approach provides a practical and effective means of managing shelf spaces in retail stores. ©2009 IEEE.
