Objectives
1) To develop a (global comparable) measure of product quality based on observed data. 2) To examine how product quality differs both across firms in the domestic and export markets. 3) To investigate how past export experience and other investments affect product quality. 4) To understand firms’ dynamic decisions on investments in R&D and advertisement in order to improve productivity and (perceived) product quality. 5) To apply this model to examine the product quality, productivity, and export performance of Chinese firms, and to provide a micro-based guideline for Chinese firms and policy makers to improve the serious quality concern of Chinese products in the international markets.
