AbstractAcidic light: The reaction of the pincer-type cyclometalated platinum(II) complex [PtCl(η 3-N C N)] with an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) led to the [Pt(η 2-N C N)(NHC) 2] + complex with a pendent pyridyl group, which can be protonated by a variety of acidic vapors. This protonation switches the solid-state phosphorescence on (see graphic). Copyright © 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
