AbstractThis paper summarizes a simple and effective single sensor estimation technique (SSET) and its application in power electronic systems. Using only one sensor to measure the inductor current or inductor voltage, the method can provide all necessary information for feedforward and feedback control and parameter estimation, no other sensors are needed in the whole system. The principle is demonstrated in an active power factor correction circuit and an electronic ballast for fluorescent lamps. It is found that the proposed method can estimate these variables and parameters accurately for both control and parameter monitoring purposes. The method can reduce the number of sensors and eliminate the requirement of complex isolated circuitry in power electronic systems.
