AbstractThe postbuckling analysis of shells is studied by the spline finite strip method. The selection of higher order terms in the incremental variational principle is discussed. An improvement on the arc-length iteration method is presented. The examples all demonstrated the versatility and accuracy of the present method. The computed results for a circular cylindrical shell under axial compression correlate very well with the experiment results. © 1989.
