AbstractThis paper evaluates the production efficiency in Hong Kong's construction industry from 1981 to 1994 by using a nonparametric econometrics approach-data envelopment analysis (DEA). The results show that the production efficiency in this industry increases at an average rate of 0.41 percent annually. The analysis provides four causes of the production efficiency growth: enhancement of labour quality, advances in the construction technology, progress of management and the expansion of production scale.
