AbstractThis study is part of the Hong Kong Innovation & Technology Fund (ITF) project: RFID-Enabled Building Information Modeling (BIM) Platform for Prefabrication Housing Production in Hong Kong. The proposed ITF project aims to enhance prefabrication housing production in Hong Kong. Our research group concerns the prefabrication manufacturing of the project, and will mainly focus on development and pilot implementation of prefabrication manufacturing decision support service (PMDSS) in the prefabrication factory. PMDSS has two versions, one is for personal computers (PC) and the other is for smart phones. The core idea is that workers acquire the real-time information by hand-held device (e.g. smart phones) throughout the production process, and further transfer such information to the database, which can be used by the managers through PC. This system enables rapid collection of information which facilities decision-making in the prefabrication production process. It also increases information traceability and visibility to other critical stakeholders such as client, contractor and transportation companies. With such advantages, it is useful to improve the productivity throughout prefabrication manufacturing, transportation, and assembly on site.
