AbstractDrawing on a large-scale household survey conducted in Guangzhou in 2013,this paper explores the gated communities’environment and their effects on community attachment in Guangzhou. The results show that gated communities in Guangzhou have high-quality community environment;residents have attachment to both social and physical dimensions;community attachment is directly affected by community participation while social interaction has both direct and indirect effects.Besides, the built-up environment indirectly impacts community attachment through residents’subjective perception while their subjective evaluations have both direct or indirect influence.
