Prof. Jao Tsung-i and Hong Kong Institute of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies

Abstract

Hong Kong Institute of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies established by Prof. Jao Tsung-i had an impressive record of achievements in promoting the collaborative exchange between the international and Chinese academia. Due to the low profile and the unique history, however, there is little known about the Institute. This article therefore tries to rebuild the developing history of the Institute. 国学大师饶宗颐教授于80年代之后，以一人之力创立“香港敦煌吐鲁番研究中心”，身体力行促进海内外学者的交流合作，并发起主持多项大型研究项目，对学界贡献甚伟。唯由于该中心不求名利的低调踏实学风及独特的发展脉络，有关事迹至今不详。本文因此尝试从有限的材料中，梳理与该中心有关的发展历史。
