AbstractThe first chapter focuses on the analysis of the literary genre of Six Chapters of a Floating Life. Many scholars in the past considered it to be an “autobiographical novel”. This article attempts to analyze the arguments of the “autobiographical novel” and whether these arguments conform to the facts. Finally, this paper puts forward a reasonable viewpoint. The second chapter mainly discusses the credibility of Cai Genxiang's conclusions on the study of volumes V and VI of Six Chapters of a Floating Life. His writings have made influential claims on volumes V and VI. There are many problems he has discussed in his works, and he has put forward many conclusions that previous scholars have never put forward. However, there are still three conclusions that can be discussed. Therefore, this chapter focuses on these three conclusions. The third chapter explores the internal and external causes of the loss of volumes V and VI. For the internal reason, this article focuses on the literary values of volumes V and VI. As for the external reason, this paper tries to analyze the relationship between the loss of volumes V and VI and social factors and finally infers their lost time. The fourth chapter analyzes the artistic spirit of Six Chapters of a Floating Life from four aspects. Firstly, this article discusses the artistic expression. Then we further explore the artistic spirit of Six Chapters of a Floating Life from three aspects and discuss the relationship between the artistic spirit and the reader's emotions and spirit.
