AbstractThe late E.G. Pryor spent 33 years working as a town planner for the Hong Kong government. His career covered the most dramatic and profound changes to Hong Kong’s urban and rural environments. The planning exercises in which he took part and often led transformed the city from a late colonial sleepy hollow to a dynamic modern metropolis with world-beating internal and external connectivity. When he died in late 2018, his passing elicited almost no comment in the city he had served so faithfully and so well. This memorial article reviews Ted Pryor’s career, the saga of Hong Kong’s strategic planning and Ted’s core academic interest, Hong Kong’s housing problem. It includes a bibliography of his known published work.
