Abstract(Figure Presented) Raising the bar. Tethering the macrocyclic polyether to the tetracationic cyclophane in a "donor-acceptor" [2]catenane (see schematic representation) slows down the process of partial pirouetting of the crown ether around the cyclophane by a factor of 10000. This level of structural control has important consequences for the design of the next generation of molecular switches that depend on bistable "donor-acceptor" [2]catenanes. © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
