AbstractSecondary dialkylammonium ions thread through the cavity of (RS)-benzo-2,2'-binaphtho[26]crown-8 to create [2]pseudorotaxanes, one of which was stoppered to produce a [2]rotaxane - incorporating the chiral binaphthyl unit - that was characterised by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography.
