Book Chapter: Introduction to the Research Companion to Building Information Modeling

TitleIntroduction to the Research Companion to Building Information Modeling
Authors
Issue Date25-Mar-2022
PublisherEdward Elgar Publishing
Abstract

There has been no more momentous development than the emergence of building information modelling (BIM) in the global architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) industry over the past two decades. This introductory chapter of Research Companion on Building Information Modeling starts with the definitions of BIM and goes beyond the buzzword to interpret its various meanings from different perspectives. It also covers BIM’s evolution from the early stages to the current era of unprecedented growth in research and development (R & D). In the end, the introduction briefly outlines the 34 chapters that are organized into four constituent parts, including Part I: Theory fusion and facilitators of BIM; Part 2: Technological developments of BIM; Part 3: BIM-enabled construction and engineering management innovations; and Part 4: Prospects and challenges.
