AbstractA series of rhenium(I) complexes with appended coumarin ligand has been synthesized and characterized, and their fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) properties have been studied. The interaction of the complexes with metal ions was investigated by UV-vis, luminescence, and NMR spectroscopic methods. The binding of various metal ions of different sizes would cause the changes in the conformation of the molecule, leading to a change in the donor-acceptor distance and FRET efficiency. © 2009 American Chemical Society.
