AbstractMicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in gene regulatory pathways. Although computational algorithms have been developed for the prediction of miRNA targeting genes in animals, the accuracy of proposed algorithms is far from perfection. Here we present an overview of the proposed algorithms. The possible rules in miRNA target recognition in target predictions are also discussed. A better designed algorithm and further progress on the systemic identification of miRNA targets would enhance our knowledge on their pivotal roles among the biological systems.
