AbstractSonographically guided hydrostatic reduction of intussusception is an effective method of treating this potentially life-threatening condition. During the reduction process, ileoileocolic intussusception can be diagnosed; if attempts at reduction fail, then the best treatment is surgery. In contrast, ileocolic intussusception can be effectively reduced under sonographic guidance. After diagnosis, hydrostatic reduction of childhood intussusception can be safely performed wholly within the sonographic suite. Children suffering from this entity can be diagnosed and treated promptly without the use of ionizing radiation.
